Social and Cultural Characteristics

The northern region of the civilian control line has the unique development of social and cultural characters as it was under the control state or regional isolation caused of civil and social conditions. In the village in the northern region of the civilian control line, outsiders are more populated than natives so that different natured cultures of each manners and customs are fussed and on the top of this, there is the unique military culture as being the boundary region. Recently, such mankind sociological statement of the civilian control region are becoming the study subject of the academic world and using this unique cultural environment as the measure of tourist attraction are brought up.

Population Constitution

The important character in the population constitution of northern region of the civilian control line is that the population rate of the natives, who were living there before 6.25 war, is Because of the reason to obstruct the union of residences or a foreman of the region, the constitution of native population had not officially been investigated. The reason of the low constitution rate in the northern region of the civilian control line is that as an administrative authority of a reclaimed area is transferred in Korea, these villages in northern region are built by the natives with the outsiders gathered from all over the country.

The Changes in the Language

In Yeonseo region, Gnagwon belongs to middle region dialect region and dialect of the northern area of Gyeonggi has the character of add/drop of a consonant, reduction of the phrase and notable forties phenomenon. These dialects are still used in the Yeongseo Gangwon.and northern area of Gyunggi and the region around or have the trace. But in the northern region of civilian control line and the regions around these dialects are mixed with certain regions' regional dialects or the standard language showing the disappearance with fast speed. The area where the certain regional households have immigrated as the group or the high rate of certain regional household lived, have the special phenomenon of conserving the language habits of the region. Mahyeon-ri Gunna-myeon in Gangwon is the village where group of 66 households who are the victims of Sara typhoon immigrated in from Uljin-gun in Gyeongbuk province on 7th Apr 1959. This village presently has 133 households and most of them are residences branched from 'Civilian control line 1st generation' and conserved the living habits and the language of the time of the immigration, as there was the restriction of the passage and immigration. Also, it is the character of the language habit of northern region of the civilian control line that the military culture is involved in their everyday lives.
