The civilian control line generally makes parallel with the truce line. So that, the civilian control region is forming belt shape of 5 ~ 20km area on the north latitude between 37° 45' ~ 38° 40' following the 248km truce line from the East seashore to West seashore. The east is forming a steep slope and west is forming gentle slope expressing the east-west section as asymmetry as the Taebaeksan range as a boundary line.

In the east, Hyangrobongsan range runs up to seashore and west is the part of Gwangjusan range, Chugaryeong valley and Masiryeongsan range forming complicate landscape. The middle region is divided with northern west plain region and southern west intermountain areas, Hantangang as a center. The plain region is the part 200 ~ 500m thickness of lava ground and in the intermountain areas, the within 1000m of steep mountain pass of Gwangjusan range continues.

The Middle West region is the part of Gwangjusan range, Chugaryeong valley and Masiryung mountain range. In the regions of Yeoncheon and Jeongog, the basalt constitution ejected around Pyeongyang flew into Hantan and Imjongang forming the lava plain ground and the riverside is forming a cliff. The lava ground forming the rich grain district as of the richness soil. In the west region, the relatively large èê shape valley of Chugaryeong valley is forming about 100m hill.

  In the middle and down stream of the Imjin River, the hill is lowered, the low region is very rich as the alluvial soil of the watercourse has accumulated. I the islands in west seashore, the tidelands are very widely developed. The beach where the tide comes and forth are constituted seashore plain together with an alluvion between the hills.
