Jeongolchong

  It is located in the foot of sungjae Mountain of Sangchang, Gimhwa district in Culwon. Jeongolchong is the grave made by the collection of ashes in one place to console the souls of about 1000 people who died during the fight in the area. It is 7m tall and 20m wide.

Taejong ordered commander Hogun of Yonggol corps and Mataebu to attack our country with 10,000 troops in Injo 14years(1630), Eurim, the Pyungyang moderator of the time, and Myunggu Hong, the governor, together with 2000 royal soldiers and 300 volunteered army organized from Ilwon.
  Gimhwa faced enemy on 28th Jan, the Injo 15years (1637) and fought hard till the last moment with the induction method. But the battle was lost resulting more 1000-war deads. This time Myunggu Hong , the governor, was also killed. Hwijo Gim, the Hungryung of Gimhwa that time, temporarily buried the corpses of war deads in 6-7 spots around the hard-fought field. Later, Eungchang An selected foot of the mountain Sungjae and collected the ashes of war deads which were temporary buried in 6-7 spot into on spot and arraigned the grave consoling the souls. Ever since then people called this grave Jeongolchong. Presently it is located in the civilian control zone.
