It is located on the 450th Gwanwoo-ri Cherwon-gun in Gangwon province in Hwagaesan. Presently the place is free to enter and exit, as it is not included in Civilian control zone. But it was a part of the civilian control zone for a long time so that it is not widely generally known temple. The name Dopian contains the meaning of making all living things cross over to the emancipation world of the paramita seem to express strong desire of the founder. This temple opened a temple gate in the King Gungdug 5years (865) for the first time.

Doseonguksa, the high priest of those days together with 1,500 fuglemen founded the temple, enshrined Cheoljobirojana, the statue of the seat of Buddhist idol and constructed three-storied stone pagoda. According to the historical chronicle recorded in Eujeonsabonmalsaji, Dansungguksa prepared the Cheoljobirojana, and tried to enshrine in Yangyangsa, Cherwon but the statue of the Buddhist idol got missing during delivery and soon it was found seating at the place of Dopiansa, so that the temple was built in that location and attended the statue. Dansungguksa make this temple of one of the Bibogukchal and as the Hwagaemountain seemed like the tender lotus flower floating on the water, they secured physical aspect of the mountain with stone pagoda and iron Buddhist statues, they then strongly consolidated main room and prepared for invasion of the outside influence. Presently in Dopiansa, there are Daejeoggwanggeok, Samsunggak and Yoesachea and for culture assets, the Cheoljobirojana, the statue of the seat of Buddhist idol, as the 63rd national treasure and three-storied stone pagoda as the 233rd treasure.
