The history of the mankind is mostly divided into historical age which human left the record of the period using the letters and the prehistorical age which is the time period before historical age. Our prehistroric age includes the Paleolithic period, Neolithic era, the Bronze Age and the Iron Age.
Sites of the Paleolithic period in the civilian control line and the regions around the area are concentrated in Imjin and Hangang basin. These Paleolithic period sites are very important archeologically, so that these regions can be the treasuries of Paleolithic period sites of Korea.

The cultural character of the Neolithic era and the Bronze Age can be distinguished through the crockeries. The teeth of a comb pattern crockeries of the Neolithic era are belong to the crockery culture of the Midwest of Korean peninsula and its typical shape is the half egg shape with the sharp bottom as a base. Its character is thast the patterns are engraved all differently on bottom, body and mouth. Also, there was an affirmation of the Dolmen, the tomb representing the Bronze Age, and among these, the table style called as the northern style has been affirmed drawing the attention.

This northern style is formed as wide flat cover stone on the 4 stone support standing on the ground making the grave room of rectangle shape. On the hand there was southern style found along with the northern style, the southern styles are mostly formation of cover stone on the gravels or other stones on the ground. Like this the special character of the Dolmen found in the civilian control line regions and the areas around is that both Southern and Northern styles are found. This shows the interesting fact that the civilian control line area is the region bordering the Southern and Northern cultures
